Support with the purchase of digital end devices

The coronavirus pandemic is demanding a great deal from parents and children. Last year, parents, children and teachers already had to adapt to longer periods of home schooling with corresponding distance learning.

If your school has to switch from (restricted) regular lessons to a homeschooling model again due to the pandemic, it is important that your child can also follow digitalised distance learning without restrictions. The Leipzig Job Centre may be able to support you financially. Please contact us!

If the pupils concerned are not provided with digital end devices by their respective school, a one-off, unavoidable special need that goes beyond the standard requirement must be examined. In this respect, the possibility of borrowing equipment from the school itself always takes precedence.

In principle, all pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school are eligible. The decisive factor is participation in distance learning due to the pandemic.

Therefore, if you do not have a digital device (computer, tablet) or the necessary printer or accessories, the Leipzig Job Centre can consider providing financial support for a corresponding purchase.

How does it work?

  • You inform your responsible service team of your requirements in writing, by telephone or by e-mail.
  • They indicate the amount of the costs.
  • You submit the confirmation from the school or the school authority, which can be downloaded below, about the need for a digital device for home participation in school lessons and proof from the school that there is no existing loan facility.
  • You will then receive a notification from your benefits team or will be contacted if you have any queries.

As a rule, a subsidy of up to 350.00 euros can be granted.

Have you already purchased the necessary device for your child? Applications can be submitted retroactively from 01.01.2021.

The Citizen's Income is made up of additional personalised benefits.

Expectant mothers

From the 13th week of pregnancy, you will receive 17 per cent of the individual standard benefit. The additional requirement is applied for and proven on presentation of the maternity passport.

Disabled people of working age

You will receive an additional requirement of 35 per cent of the applicable standard benefit if you receive the following benefits or assistance:

  • Benefits for participation in working life in accordance with § 33 SGB IX or other
  • Assistance in obtaining a suitable place in working life or
  • Help with training for other appropriate work

Single parents

They receive an additional 36 per cent of the standard benefit if they live with children of the following ages:

  • a child under 7 years of age or
  • two children under the age of 16 or
  • three children under the age of 16

Alternatively, an amount of 12 per cent of the standard benefit must be paid for each minor child if this exceeds the above amount, up to a maximum of 60 per cent of the standard benefit.

Nutrition

This additional requirement is only granted if there is evidence of costly nutrition for medical reasons.

The recommendations of the German Association for Public and Private Welfare (Deutscher Verein für öffentliche und private Fürsorge) apply to types of food and illnesses diagnosed in this regard.

Decentralised hot water supply

An additional requirement is recognised if hot water is produced by devices installed in the accommodation (e.g. via electric instantaneous water heaters and boilers). The amount of the additional requirement depends on the age of the person entitled to benefits and the standard requirement applicable to them. Deviations are permitted in justified exceptions.

The additional requirement is to be recognised retroactively to 1 January 2011, at the earliest from the beginning of the period of need.

Irrefutable, ongoing special needs in cases of hardship

In addition to the average needs that are covered by the standard needs, unavoidable, ongoing and not just one-off special needs that arise in atypical circumstances must also be covered. Unavoidable, ongoing, not just one-off special additional needs may exist, for example, in the cases listed below:

  • Care and hygiene products
  • Cleaning/household help for people with severe physical disabilities
  • Costs for exercising the right of access

However, there is no separate requirement for:

  • Oversized and undersized clothing and shoes
  • Children's clothing for growing children
