Relocation
What needs to be considered?
Before concluding a new tenancy agreement, the person entitled to benefits who is capable of earning should obtain assurance that the new rent will be paid. Assurance must be given if the move is necessary or has been arranged and the expenses for the future rent correspond to the standard values deemed appropriate.
A move is necessary, for example, in the event of separation from a spouse or partner, serious health risks or unreasonably cramped living conditions.
In principle, a move is not necessary if a child in the community of need has reached the age of majority, if the home is poorly furnished or if there is merely a desire for a different neighbourhood.
Who bears the costs of the move?
Housing procurement costs, relocation costs and rent deposits can be covered if they are necessary. Assurance that the Job Centre will cover the costs must be obtained before the move. Assurance must always be given if the move was initiated by the Job Centre or is necessary.
How much are moving costs covered?
In principle, a move should be organised and carried out as far as possible by the person themselves or by using private help. In this case, the necessary removal costs include the standard market costs for a hire vehicle and removal boxes.
If, exceptionally, a move cannot be realised independently, the costs for a removal company can also be covered. At least three cost estimates from removal companies are required for this. If the services are comparable, the most favourable offer is to be given preference.
